For the Internet community slang, watch Internet sock puppet
A Meat Puppets formed as a 3-piece punk handle band around Scottsdale, Arizona in January 1980, originally calling themselves the Bastions of Immatureness. A Kirkwood brothers, Curt and Cris, played guitar & bass, severally, and Derrick Bostrom played drums. It began calling themselves the Meat Puppets around June, 1980, fallowing a song by Curt of the equivalent title.
Their early works (a Within the Car ep & Meat Puppets I personally l-p) were wholeheartedly punk, with opaque vocals & typically sloppy musicianship. Their brand of cathartic, explosive hardcore attracted a attention of legendary cheap label SST, who freed their number one record around 1982. Unsatisfied by having a symptom, a band spent plenty of instance in a studio prior to the release of 1983's "Meat Puppets II." A band's exciting experimentation sustaining psychedelia, acid rock, and quietly tunes in top of the core american-style thrash sound, gave them their a single acknowledged classic, & propelled a record to legendary status. A Meat Puppets burgeoning musicalness led to supplementary intricate & melodic songs in 1985's Up On the Sun, which drew in classic tough rock & granted the children their 1st major mainstream exposure.
All over the next decade, a Meat Puppets remained in SST & freed a series of albums, Out Our Way (EP 1986), a psycedelic Mirage & power-trio Huevos (each 1987) across 1989's "Monsters" and so eventually landing in the major label by having 1991's "Forbidden Places." Around 1994, the band witnessed themselves suddenly popular once Nirvana's Kurt Cobain played "Plateau", "Oh Me" & "Lake of Fire" (tons originally from either Meat Puppets II) among more songs by having Curt & Cris in MTV. A sequent album, "Nirvana Unplugged in New York," served when an undesigned swan-song for a b&, as Cobain committed suicide shortly when the concert, and "Lake of Fire" became the cult favourite for its particularly wrenching vocal performance from either Cobain. After, a Nirvana exposure & a nature and severity of the lone "Backwater" helped lift a Meat Puppets to newly commercial message heights by having Too High To Die from 1994 which earned them their number one gold record.
1995's No Joke! was a final album recorded per original Meat Puppets lineup. Regrettably, Cris Kirkwood experienced turn into easily addicted to diacetylmorphine at this point & although doses got universally been associated by owning a band, his erratic behavior before long became overmuch to match. Derrick recorded a solo EP under the monicker Today's Sounds in 1996, and later on in 1999 took charge of re-issuing the Puppets' original seven records on Rykodisc as well as putting out their first live album, Live in Montana. Curt formed a new band in Austin, TX called the Royal Neanderthal Orchestra, but they changed their name to Meat Puppets to release Golden Lies in 2000 and Live in 2002.
Within December of 2003, Cris Kirkwood was arrested for attacking the watcher at a post office with the guard's baton. A guard shot Kirkwood in a period of the scrimmage. Kirkwood was later on denied bail, a judge citing Kirkwood's last drug arrests & parole violations. Around August 2004 he was sentenced to 21 months within prison.
Since parting from either a 2nd Meat Puppets lineup, Curt Kirkwood has never to return in to release albums by having a groups Eyes Adrift & Volcano. Around 2005 he freed his number 1 solo album entitled Snow.
